HowTo: Use HPLIP to Install Hewlett Packard network

     Printers, Scanners or Printer/Scanner/Fax Devices

This particular HowTo uses HPLIP to connect a HP OfficeJet 7340

AllInOne Printer/Scanner/Fax device which is connected to the network

with an Ethernet cord directly to the router. It could also be used in the

same way for any Hewlett Packard device connected to the network with

a wireless connection to a wireless hub or router.

When I get a chance to test it out I will add a section on how to use HPLIP to

set up a network shared HP Device.  Where the Device is connected to one

networked computer with a USB or LPT(parallel port) connection and the

other computers on the LAN(Local Area Network, usually Ethernet) can use

   it as well.

In Klikit click the Launch button on the taskbar. Go to Launch/system/and

   click HPLIP Toolbox.

This first screen is not really an error message.  HPLIP just looks first for a

USB connected device and you  are connected with ethernet so it didn't find

one.  Click on Setup Device and HP Device Manager-Printer Setup Wizard

   will come up:

Make sure your Device is attached to the network and powered on then click

on the Network/Ethernet/Wireless button to select and hit Next.

Since the only HP network device I have is the printer listed in the window

above it is already selected I could just click Next.  If you have more than

one device listed, click on the device that you are installing to highlight it and

   then click Next.

In case your Device is not recognized(this has never happened to me yet)

and showing in the list there is a Find Manually button that will bring up a wiz-

ard to help you find it. You will probably need to know the IP address of the

   Device(something like 192.168.1.2) or/and the Device ID(Something like

Officejet_7300_series) My HP7340 AllInOne has a menu using the buttons on

the device to display that info on it's view screen or to print it out manually. I

assume that most of HP's newer devices have some similar way to check for

that info. So look in the manual that came with the device to find out.

The information shown in the text boxes in the screen above were already

in there when the screen came up and I could just hit Next now.  The other

text boxes are for you in case you want to fill them in.

Once again all the information needed is already there, if you want to fill the

rest in, you can and then hit Finish.  The install is complete at this point.

   Wasn't that simple?

The following screens are the screens of the Toolbox, included just to show

you the settings and tools available to configure, test, clean and calibrate your

device.  HPLIP attempts to offer the same functionality as the HP software

which is included for those other Opperating Systems. There is a manual for

the Toolbox in the Help Menu.

This last screen allows you to set the Device as the Default device.  You

would click on the device in the left pane to select it and then click the Set

As Default Button.  This was already done in this screen so the button is

   greeked already.
