* This Page will always contain the Installation instructions of the latest Klikit release

Klikit-Linux "first flight"

version 0.1-8 (Beta)

Instructions

First, it is is very important that you understand that the current release of Klikit-Linux is still in Beta Stage, which means that it is not stable, it may be very buggy.

It is for testing purposes only, and should NOT be used in ANY system with important data.

The team behind the development of Klikit-Linux will not be responsible in any way, for loss of data.

Once you download the .iso you will have to use a burning program such as k3b, Brasero or Nero.

Do NOT burn the .iso as data, you have to burn it as a (CD/DVD) image.

USING THE LIVECD/DVD:
(sometimes it is necessary to set the BIOS in the PC to boot from the cd-rom/dvd-rom)

Place the Klikit-Linux CD/DVD into your computer

reboot the computer.

you should get the following screen:

Highlight the first option of the menu (Start or Install Klikit-Linux), and hit Enter in your keyboard

the CD/DVD should boot, and after a while you will be automatically logged in as user (Username: klikit)

into the Klikit-Linux Desktop :

If you logout,  and need to login again, or you need to do any administrative work using sudo,  use the following info:

 Username: klikit  Password: klikit

If needed there is also a root account, which you can login into with the following info:

Username: root   Password: root

It is advisable, for security reasons, to login as user, Klikit-Linux is setup in a way that makes it quite simple to perform

administrative tasks as a user, but if you want to login as root it is your computer, and it is your choice!...

INSTALLATION:
Once you have the system running as a LiveCD/DVD, you have the option of installing it in your system.

In the upper left corner of the desktop there is an Install icon, just click on it to launch the installer:

Now Just follow through the steps, answering according to your choices.

Choose the appropriate language for your install, from the list.  Click Next to continue.

Click on the dot on the map closest to your home town.  The city you have chosen will be shown in the

Selected City gadget at the bottom of the window.  You can also select yout timezone by clicking the

down-arrow on the Selected City gadget, and choosing your city from the drop-down list.  When you

have finished, click the Next button to continue.

Select your desired country and keyboard layout from the list, and then click the Next button to continue.

Next, choose the partition or drive on which to install Klikit.

Use the Guided - use entire disk option, if you have installed a second hard drive on which to install Klikit,

or if you want to overwrite and replace your current operating system.

Note:  This option will destroy any data currently on the selected disk, so do not select it if you

wish to retain any data or operating system currently installed on the disk.

If you are an experienced Linux user, wise in the ways of partioning, choose the Manual option, and use the

partition editor to precisely tailor your partitions to meet your needs.

In the eleven following screen-shots, I have attempted to make the manual install process as newbie-friendly as possible.  If you follow

through the steps carefully, you should be able to complete a manual install with no difficulties.  Notice, however that the guide below

assumes that you have formatted your target drive in advance, setting up the partitions you intend to use, with gparted, or a similar

partitioning tool.  A tutorial on partitioning your drive using gparted will be available soon, and a link to it will be provided here.

When you click the Next button, the Prepare partitions window will open, as illustrated below.  To begin, first locate the swap partion

you want to use for this installation.

Right-click on it, and select Edit partition from the drop-down menu.  The Edit partition window will open.  Make sure the Use as field

is set to swap, then click OK to continue.

Next, select the partition to be used as your root (/) partition, right-click on it and select Edit partition from the menu.

The Edit partition window will open.  Use the down-arrow buttons to set the Use as: and Mount point: fields as shown below, then

click OK to continue.

Locate the partition you want to use as your /home partition, right-click on it, and select Edit partition from the menu.

The Edit partition window will open.  Use the down-arrow buttons to set the Use as: and Mount point: fields as shown below.

Click OK to continue.

You will be returned to the Prepare partitions window.  If this is a new installation, with no existing data in the home folder which

you want to preserve, then place an X in the checkbox on your home partition, to format it.  If, however, this is a reinstall or you are

upgrading to a new version of Klikit, and you do not want your data and settings in your home folder to be over-written, then leave

the checkbox blank.  Click Next to continue.

Enter your name in the first slot.  Your entry will be echoed in the second slot, automatically, all in lower case letters.

In the first password slot, enter the password of your choice.  Type it again in the second slot, for verification.  In the

bottom slot, type a unique name to identify your computer on your network.  Click Next to continue.

Review the information about which partitions are to be formatted, (shown in the red box below), and if it is correct, click Install to

begin the installation process, or click the Advanced button, if you wish to change the location where the GRUB bootloader will be

installed.  (As shown in the second illustration below.)

The Installing system window will open, and the blue progress bar will track the progress as Klikit-Linux is installed on your system.

Note:  The GRUB bootloader is a small utility included with Klikit-Linux, which, when you start your computer allows you to select the

operating system you wish to boot, from a list of all operating systems installed on your computer.  In most cases, installing GRUB to

the default location will work fine, for most users.  If you click the Advanced button, the Advanced Options window will open, enabling

you to change the location where GRUB will be installed.  When done, click OK to continue.

Click the Install button.  The installation will begin.  A small progress indicator window will track the progress as the installation proceeds.

Expect the installation to take about fifteen to twenty minutes.

When the Installation Complete notification appears, click OK to exit the installer, then restart your computer.

Remove the Klikit CD/DVD from the drive when prompted, and press the Enter key to reboot your computer.

That's it Klikit is now installed.  Your computer will boot into Klikit automatically.  When the login

screen appears, enter the username you chose in the username slot, and the password you selected

in the password slot, then hit Enter.  In a few short moments, your Klikit desktop will appear!

Welcome to Klikit-Linux!  Enjoy!     Papabearak
