Kustomize The Klikit Klock

Page history last edited by Ben 2 yrs ago

You say you don't care for the standard Time/Date display in the lower

right hand corner of your screen?  No worries, mate!  Klikit makes it

simple to customize your clock in dozens of ways.  You're almost cer-

tain to find a configuration that you like.  To get started, right-click on

the clock display, in the lower right-hand corner.  From the drop-down

menu, select Configure Clock.

The KDE Configure-Clock module will open.  Here you can choose:

1. The Clock type, and whether to display the Date, Seconds, the

Day of the week, and/or a frame around your clock.

2.  The foreground (Text) color, and the background color, for both

       the date and the time.

3.  The font size and style, for both the time and the date.

4.  Click the OK button to save your changes and exit the Configure-Clock

       module.

 1.  By clicking the down-arrow gadget on the clock type selector,

you can choose between several clock styles.

Clicking the Foreground or Background color gadgets, brings up the

standard KDE Select Color panel.  Here you can select the desired color

for the text and background of your Time/Date display, by any of several

methods:

1.  Move your mouse pointer around in the gradient box until you find a color

close to what you want, then

2.  fine tune your selection by moving the slider up or down the color bar to the

right of the gradient box.  Your curreent color selection appears as a large

square, just below the Add to Custom Colors button, or

3.  using the eye-dropper tool to pick an existing color from a picture opened

on your desktop, or even from your desktop wallpaper, or

4.  fine tune your selected color by adjusting the numbers in Hue, Saturation,

and Value, or Red, Green and Blue gadgets below the gradient box.

5.  Once you have created the exact color you want, click the Add to Custom

Colors button to save it for future use.  Click OK to exit.

Clicking the Choose button on the Font selection gadget opens the

Font Selection window, where you can adjust:

1.  the desired font, or type face, and

2.  the font style, i.e. Regular, Italic, Bold, or Bold Italic, and

3.  the font size.

4.  The preview box at the bottom of the window allows you to see

how selected font adjustments will appear.  When you are happy

with the results, click OK to exit.

By clicking on the hidden drag bar to the left of the Date/Time display,

you can drag it to any location on the panel that you would prefer.....

As illustrated in the following picture.

1.  Note that the Date/Time display has been moved towards the center of

       the panel.

To change the current Date and Time settings, right-click on the clock display,

and select Adjust Date & Time, from the menu.

1.   Notice that if the Set date and time automatically box is checked,

2.  the calendar and clock setting controls are disabled.  If you have an

"always on", high-speed Internet connection, the automatic setting is

your best choice.  It works very well, and your clock is always accurate

to the second.  If, however, you connect to the web via dial-up, you may

wish to uncheck the automatic setting, and set your time and date manually.

 1.  As you can see in the illustration below, if the automatic setting box is unchecked,

 2.  the manual controls for date and time become active.  In the bottom section of the

window, you can select your local time zone, by simply clicking the appropriate

        entry in the list.

 3.  Clicking the Apply button at the bottom of the window, applies your settings immediately,

so if you are not happy with the results, you can modify your settings further, before

closing the window.  When you are satisfied, click the OK button, to close the window.

To select the desired format for your Date/Time display, right-click on the clock, and select

Date & Time Format, from the menu.

The Configure window will open.  Here you can:

1.  select the calendar system to use, and choose from a number of ready-made format templates,

for the Time, Date, and Short date displays, and set which day of the week to set as the first day

       of a new week.

2.  When satisfied with your settings, click the OK button, to save your changes,

       and exit the module.

A little-known but very useful utility is also available in Klikit, again accessed by right-clicking the

clock, and then:

1.  selecting Copy to Clipboard, from the menu, and

2.  then selecting one of the available Date/Time formats from the extended menu.  The current

Date and/or Time will be copied to the system clipboard, from whence it can be pasted easily

into any web form or text document you may be working on.  For example, this was completed

on Mon Sep 3, 2007, at 4:14 pm.  To paste the saved information into your document, first

position your cursor within the document at the desired location, then press Ctrl and V

simultaneously, or right-click within the document, at the desired location, and choose Paste,

       from the menu.

I hope you found this tutorial helpful.  I'm outa here!   papabearak
