This tutorial will guide you through the process of adding a remote printer to Klikit-Linux. I will use a
Samba shared printer in this example, but the procedure should be very similar for other types as well.
To begin, click the Launch button, and from the Launch Menu, select KControl (KDE Control Center).
Once the Control Center window opens, click the Peripherals icon in the left pane.
Next, click the Printers icon, also in the left pane.
At the top of the right pane, click the Add button.
From the drop-down menu, select Add Printer/Class
The Add Printer Wizard introduction screen will open. After reading the introduction, click
the Next button, at the bottom right, to continue.
Tick the box next to SMB shared printer (Windows), and click the Next button to continue.
On the SMB Printer Settings screen, click the Scan button, near the bottom, and wait while the
wizard scans your system. After a moment, your network will appear in the box. Click the + sign
next to your network name, to expand the network contents.
In the expanded list, find the computer to which your printer is attached, and click the + sign
next to it, to expand the list again. Your remote printer should now show in the list. Select it,
and click the Next button to continue.
In the left column, select the manufacturer of your printer, then in the right column, select
the specific model. Click the Next button to continue.
In the Driver Selection window, the correct recomended driver for your printer should already
be selected. If the selection appears correct, click the Next button to continue.
The following three windows in the wizard are intended primarily for corporate office computers,
and are not relevant to the typical home network, so just leave the default settings alone, and click
the Next button to continue.
Click Next to continue.
Click Next to continue.
Enter a unique name to identify your remote printer on the network, in the Name field. The
Description field should already be filled in with the make and model of your printer. The
Location field may be left blank, or filled in as a memo to you as to where this printer is located
within your network. Example ~ "Wife's computer in study." Click Next to continue.
That's it. You are finished. Your newly added remote printer should now appear in the list
of available printers.
